For over 70 years, the Navy made an indelible mark on the suburbs of Washington, DC with an iconic landmark and complex that was called the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC). Located in Bethesda, NNMC was comprised of a collection of institutions—from the President’s Hospital, Medical and Dental Schools, and the Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI). Learn about the vital role Bethesda has played in medical science and innovation as André Sobocinski, historian for the U.S. Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, discusses some of the hallmarks from NMRI's history, from the survival kit for castaways to the Tissue Bank.
