PCV Cultural Arts Programming

Our speaker this month is artist Fran Simon, who'll be speaking on artist Amy Sherald’s American Sublime show.  Amy Sherald is the artist who painted Michelle Obama’s famous  portrait. The American Sublime show was controversial because it was supposed to be shown at the Smithsonian, but the Trump administration demanded removal of some of the paintings.  Sherald  refused and the show dates were transferred to the Baltimore Museum of Art.  American Sublime has shown at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (fall 2024 debut), the Whitney Museum of American Art (spring 2025), the Baltimore Museum of Art (November 2025–February 2026) and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta (May - September 2026).

Amy Sherald is an extremely interesting artist who merges fashion, photography skills, and an incredible highly technical approach to painting and color to produce huge paintings of the American experience.

We are delighted to have artist Fran Simon with us, sharing a presentation about artist Amy Sherald.  These monthly cultural arts programs are presented in cooperation with the Potomac Community Center Seniors program.
